I’ve started with my Sony DSLR around 1.5 years ago. Back in the days I was unexperienced and just wanted to get my hands on something better than those digital cameras. So I bought a Sony a380 which seemed to be great in the beginning as it had so many features. But there is always a snag.

As I already mentioned I was unexperienced so I did not look at the ergonomics of the body. I just went ahead and bought it. Even worse I got myself an 18-200 lens. Of course I was expecting a lot on my first shots, but it just did not work out. First thoughts of having done the wrong decision came up. But after half to a year collecting experience I went over to some better lenses (50/1.8 and 90/2.8). The quality of images changed drastically from my very first pics. After I got those both lenses I did not really use my 18-200 as long as I was not forced to do so. But once again there was a problem. Ergonomics. When I put the Tamron 90/2.8 macro lens on my cam , it just felt wrong. The balance was off and tilting towards the lens. There was no way I could hold that cam for a longer period without hurting my wrist. But I tried to live with it because there was a point that was much more crucial to me. The viewfinder: It was just way and I mean it way to small to work with. Second thoughts of having done the wrong choice came up. After lenses the next big step was to get a flash. And now the Fun stopped. The cam was totally not balance-able anymore. Probably the guys over at Sony did not think about people using such a big Flash on such a cam (Metz 50 AF-1). So it had stopped right here. My decision to sell my equipment came up.

I can’t really say that I regretted getting the Sony. It helped me to learn a lot of crucial things about taking pictures. And that’s what counts. The only reason I am jumping over to Nikon (d90) is because of comfort. The body of the D90 is much more thoughtfully designed. Controlling the cam is much easier as well as the twice in size viewfinder makes it much more comfortable to focus manually. This cam is just an enormous update to my predecessor. And I totally am happy with that. In the end it’s the photographer who makes the pics. It does not matter which camera you use as long as you feel comfortable and have fun with it.

I am not a big fan of captcha codes, thus I don’t want to embed them on my site. Therefore I have to go through a decent amount of Spam comments every day. Somehow it is really interesting how confusing and smart Spam Bots have become. Of course there are still those Spam Bots advertising with a bazillion of links in their comment, but the smart generation makes it hard for the unexperienced blogger to distinguish between a real and a spam comment. The comments below are surely Spam mails. The verification of this statement relies upon the fact that all of those comments are related to landing pages. But what if you could not see the names and websites belonging to the comment ? Would you be able to distinguish such a comment as Spam or Real ?

Just to give you a few examples

“When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get several e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service? Many thanks!”

This person is using perfect english as well as a logical sentence structure. Actually the first time I have read such a comment I checked if my blog had that function (it does not).

“I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme. Did you make this website yourself or did you hire someone to do it for you? Plz reply as I’m looking to design my own blog and would like to find out where u got this from. thank you”

Once more it seems like someone who might be interested into design services. As this site deals with design services it’s a good catch. Yet: No one would ask something like that. Why ? Because it’s a Personal Portfolio. Why would I display work of someone else here ?

“Let me start by saying nice post. Im not sure if it has been talked about, but when using Chrome I can never get the entire site to load without refreshing many times. Could just be my computer. Thanks.”

This time the person seems to be really kind and wants to help you and your sites performance. Nevertheless my web standards are not low, therefore I’ve tested my website on several browsers as well as workstations. Besides I am using Chrome myself. Clearly a spam comment.

“Great blog, Just wanted to comment that i can not connect to the rss stream, you might want install the right wordpress plugin for that to workthat.”

Another person pretending to reach you a helpful hand. Nevertheless RSS feeds do work really well. There is no need to use a plugin for me as WordPress got their own reliable RSS feed.

So would you have been able to tell if those comments were spam or real if you did not see who posted them ?
I bet you would have a hard time as a new blogger.

Have a great start into May !
